Soil Protection and Rehabilitation in Western Kenya

Project Goals

  • Scale the adoption of sustainable soil management (SSM) practices through farmer training, extension services, and watershed rehabilitation across Kenya’s Western region.
    • Strengthen coordination and learning among diverse implementing partners to ensure cohesive delivery of “on-farm” and “off-farm” interventions.
    • Support the Government of Kenya to develop a national Agricultural Soil Management Policy and Bill, and roll out a competence-based SSM curriculum across agricultural training institutions.
    • Facilitate county-level localization of soil policies and curriculum implementation to support long-term institutional uptake.
    • Contribute to the Western Kenya Soil Organic Carbon Project (WEKSOCAP), supporting carbon credit generation and reinvestment into extension services.
    • Systematize knowledge management by documenting project learnings and sharing findings with stakeholders at national and international levels.
    • Advance agroecological transformation through the ProSilience component, focusing on evidence-based innovation, private sector engagement, and national-level policy advocacy.
    • Promote inclusive participation, with special focus on smallholder farmers, women, and youth in agroecological transitions and soil health improvements.
